At Cargo Velocity, we understand that you may have questions about our services and solutions. Below, we have compiled answers to the most frequently asked questions to help you make informed decisions. If you need further assistance, our team is always here to help.
Why Cargo Velocity?
The name means that we seek improved cargo turnover within a property, because that is how terminal operators and ports make money. Therefore, we consider layout, process, equipment, technology, and TOS configuration.
Can you work quickly?
We will hustle to make your project successful.
Why do you support this industry?
We are in the maritime cargo community because we care deeply about it and we always have!
How do you help when the operator is already seeking efficiency?
We contribute our own experience to that of the local staff. We can study the ideas that local staff have and build out concepts everyone can agree on.
What is a consultant?
To consult is to ask useful questions, seek goals, and seek opinions from staff on drafts that we have prepared. We do not advise; We support investigations proposed by operators.
Is it expensive?
The value creation of our work is typically many multiples of the cost. However, we can adjust our scope to your budget and add value at any price. We start with a modest budget and a small scope and see where it goes from there.
How do we get to know you?
Friendly inquiries will be met with friendly support, at no cost, up to say an hour. We frequently recommend other firms if we are not a fit for the project.
Where would we start?
We love to hear about your terminal. Tell us all about what is going on! We will ask questions to sort out where to go next.
Do you understand labor?
Yes. Dan has managed labor as a superintendent, knows ILWU and ILA contracts, and has learned from waterfront labor in 30 countries.
How do you check that concepts are workable?
We draw up and think ideas through from the perspective of all involved staff: labor, maintenance, equipment operators, and IT. If issues arise, we ask questions of the operator.
Where does technology come into play?
We consider technology, at the level you prefer, in all projects. We provide options for improvement, or we work out operating concepts assuming what you have already.
What is delivered during and at end of the project?
It depends on what you need, but we document all work in drawing sets, visual renderings, slide decks, and reports.
Favorite kind of project?
Includes all aspects: layout, tech, equipment, operations, safety, productivity, and then procurement support and implementation.
References?
We are happy to provide references from most ports, operators, and terminals in N. America, and for about 40 other terminals internationally.
